One of the works of art that has impacted me the most in my life is 'The Souls of Acheron' by the Hungarian painter Adolf Himéry-Hirschl. In this painting, the souls of the dead wait in despair on the banks of the Acheron River for Charon to help them cross by boat to their final destination.

With my work 'The Souls' I wanted to make a reinterpretation of this work, based on its composition and palette, but in which the story changes completely.

The central figure in Himéry-Hirschl's original painting is Hermes, an Olympian god in charge of, among other things, guiding the deceased. In my work, that figure is configured as the only human-looking figure in the scene, and in this case she is female. She could also be a goddess, or at least she gives off that halo. But, here, her subjects are the animals, and they are very much alive. Moreover, they do not plead in despair, but manifest their strength, ferocity, wisdom, serenity or temperance. Some even fear. In reality, they are the representation of the different aspects of this woman, of her emotions. Her own essence unfolded, the manifestation of her subconscious, impulses, passions, thoughts and feelings. The souls of her soul.
